Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett has assured that the country has sufficient food to feed every Kenyan.

Speaking during the marking of world food day on November 8 at Mama Sarah Boit Kapsuswa Farm in Sugoi Location, Turbo Sub County, Uasin Gishu County, Bett said no Kenyan has died of hunger this year saying with the ongoing harvesting season across the country, there is enough food.

The CS further said the government will help farmers in drying their cereals especially during this rainy season and asked investors to help set up dryers that will help small scale farmers dry their produce.

Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago on his part hailed the government for supplying sufficient subsidized fertilizer to farmers during this year’s planting season saying they expect the same next year. Mandago also called for the waiving of over sh1.7 billion that farmers owe the Agricultural Finance Cooperation (AFC).

He also called for the increase of maize prices to sh3,500 per 90kg bag of maize.

“Farmers go through a lot of challenges ranging from pests, climate change and the government should take the challenges seriously and allocate more funds to the agriculture sector,” Mandago noted
